INTRODUCTION

TO THE COURSE

This is one of the very first few projects that the school gave me. It was when I first entered the school. At that point of time, I did not know what I was supposed to expect. I was rather surprised when they asked us to make them a 'perfect' cube.

In the beginning, we were tasked to build up a perfect 5cm x  5cm x 5cm cube. If the cube is not “perfect”, we will be asked to redo the cube. When I first experienced it, I felt that building a perfect cube is almost impossible in the first place but the tutors had high standards so I had to try and try again until I managed to get cubes that are close to being “perfect”. It was a tedious process but I understood that this is an exercise for us to hone our cutting skills.

INTRODUCTION

TO THIS PROJECT

It was right after we tried to make perfect cubes when the second part of the project came in. This time round, we were given different passages for each classes. We have to read through them and decipher the passages before we use cuboids and cubes to come up with an imaginary city based on what we have read and link them to our 7 design principles. As my passage had a lot of ups and downs, rhythm became my dominant design principle, while balance became my sub-dominant.

7 Design Principles :

. Balance

. Emphasis

. Unity

. Contrast

. Rhythm

. Pattern

. Movement
