Cedric Price's Fun Palace

DTR JOURNAL COMPILATION FOR CA3 Final46.

The Fun Palace which was designed by Cedric Price has many spaces that varies in size, lighting and accessibility. This provides an element of ‘Fun’ as when users enter the different spaces, they will be able to be able to experience the different space and therefore, they will be able to develop some form of spatial awareness as they transition from one space to another. The Fun palace also does not have a main entry. This means that visitors will be able to enter the space from wherever and whenever they like which in turn, reduces traffic flow. This also reduced the need of having to wait in lines and improves the circulation of the people within the Fun Palace. In addition, the design of the spaces within the Fun Palace was so versatile that each space allows multiple and different uses of each space.

The design of the Fun Palace is able to contribute to my surroundings due how versatile it is. There can be many different pathways to enter the spaces and this serves to be convenient for us as we are currently living in a fast-paced life, so we will need the different pathways to shorten or to lengthen the journey to our destination. As our everyday life is stagnant and stressful, facilities that seems fun and interesting like the ones in Fun Palace will perhaps perk us up and would help us in feeling motivated or energised for the rest of the day.

I do agree with the notion of Cybernetics as all living and non-living systems can have a purpose. I believe that all machineries, non-living systems, actually have a job for them to be completed which was why they were built in the first place. For example, a printer is built because its sole purpose would be to print out the pages filled with ink. This in turn, becomes a goal for the printers and the printing portion would be the action that was taken to achieve the goal.

Cybernetics is about having a goal and taking action to achieve the goal.
