HTI T3A Film Assignment
SYNOPSIS
Singapore has undergone a lot of changes in the past 54 years. The nation underwent tremendous development over the years as it went from a small fishing village into a well developed country. It wasn’t long before tall skyscrapers started to bloom all over the city. They loomed over the citizens in an impressive stance as if it were looking down upon the people. Many watched as Singapore grew. Some sang praises whilst others criticised. Conflicting opinions were voiced out yet neither were able to come to a common consensus. In the eyes of its people, Singapore is a dystopian country but to the rest of the world, it's a utopia, a place where poverty is not prevalent. Here comes a question from me to you:

“ Is Singapore a Utopian or Dystopian Country?”

Through this short film, our main aim is to be able to show how Singapore looks like to people who have different financial income and to bring up the question as to whether Singapore is truly affordable. The cost of living in Singapore has been on the rise ever since the development of the country and many have complained that Singapore is not affordable as everything is expensive.

However, others feel that Singapore is affordable if they know how to spend their money wisely. They feel that there are a lot of cheaper alternatives that people could have gone for. For example, as compared to buying fresh fruits and vegetables at the supermarket in a shopping mall, they could have gone to a nearby local wet market where fresh ingredients can be found at a much cheaper price, which in turn, helps lower income families to save up or allow them to buy more ingredients for the same price.

Therefore, questions such as: “Is Singapore truly affordable and does financial income affect their standard of living?” and “Does financial income hierarchy exists in Singapore?” popped up and this got us to start thinking. Does being rich equals to being truly happy? How does Singapore cope with people who have different financial income? How did they make it possible for most of their citizens and foreigners to not feel the difference in financial income amongst the people?

We would like to immerse ourselves into the roles and play out the feelings that people feel even though they have different incomes or come from different income family.

In the video, we will be portraying the different lifestyles that people have through the places that they visit and how eventually, regardless of our financial status, people will still be able to have fun even if they do not have as much money as others. Likewise, people with money may not be the happiest people in the country. It is more about how people make use of whatever they have to fulfil their wishes and make themselves feel happy.
This video tries to show how despite different social status, all of us will pass through a transient space at one point of time.
