This is the design which i came up with after trying to resolve the problems brought up by my tutors. Rather than having just walls, decided to change the overall form of my model so that it does not compromise privacy yet it fulfills the requirements given by the lecturers.

For this prototype, my client is able to be able to experience both dark and light. My client is able to do her work at the top plane where there is light and when she wants to rest she can go to the other end of the model and enter the bottom compartment before she pulls the top plane down to the ground for privacy.

This is how the model looks like from the front. It appears to be asymmetrical so that it appears more dynamic.

The plane at the top can be folded down so that it becomes a table.

From the image shown above, i added in steps so that my partner can climb up to the top plane where she can do her work.

This is the finalised model. With privacy in mind, i wanted the space to be somewhat enclosed which was why i played with the form of the structure. Unlike prototype 4, this model provides more privacy and it is more stable as compared to prototype 4. However, prototype 5 is also similar to prototype 4 in the sense that both models play with dark and light.

In order to incorporate a backrest for my partner when she rests, i cut a certain portion of the model and have it intersect a piece from the "wall". The angle of the backrest can be shifted through the excess flap at the bottom of the back rest. This place serves as, both her rest and play area.

The planes/pieces from the walls can come together and interlock to form a temporary bookshelf for my partner. Alternatively, my partner can also place her items right above her play and rest area.

There will be an additional plane at the entrance where my partner can close and open.

This will be her work area. She can sit on the floor to do her work, while the wall shall act as a bachrest for her or if she wants to, she can also sit on the top plane.

This will be the storage area. I added in an additional piece so that if my partner happens to place her stuff or sit on it, they will not fall into the hole, where the storage area will be.

CONTINUATION

OF THIS PROJECT

This is the second and final stage of the assignment. After a round of presentation, we got feedbacks from our tutors of our current prototypes and how they can be further improved.

According to the comments which I had received, I realised that I had been looking at the project in the form of furniture which restricts further development in design thinking. I should have been looking at them as surfaces which can have multiple purposes where my partner can rest and play at the same area with just a few shifts of planes or art card pieces etc...

After we have decided on the final prototype and its design, It was time for us to build a 1:1 version of our final prototype. We were provided with three pieces of cardboard (1.2m x 1.2m x 2.1m). After I had finalised my design, I quickly made markings on the cardboard using a pencil so that I would know where I am supposed to cut. The problem started arising once I was done making the markings. As we were only provided with these three pieces of cardboard, I became afraid to cut it, in fear of making an irreversible mistake. Eventually, as time passes and the deadline was approaching, I gathered up all of my courage and cut it. I had to be extra careful but I managed to finish everything without any mistakes.
