This is the first prototype which we came up with initially. We made a few changes after we had consulted the tutors.

We wanted to have like a wall to block Alice's view as she walks down the stairs. so we have some kind of a blockage along the second column of the nine grid.

At first, we wanted to have a tunnel to signify Alice's first part of her journey. However, the tutors did not want literal translations from the passage, so we had to change it. After she goes through the tunnel, she will then have to go down a flight of stairs before jumping from a certain height. Alice will continue her travel by going through the maze before she finally emerged out of the maze only to find that the hole to wonderland is too small for her to fit through.

This is the model that my partner and i have came up with after reading the first chapter of Alice in Wonderland.

My partner and i decided to vary the height of the ceiling so as she makes her way down, she would be able to realise the height difference. This is to siginify the first time she grew big after she ate the 'Eat me' cake.

From the first chapter of Alice in Wonderland, the story talked about how Alice fell into the rabbit hole before she finally landed in a room with many doors.The maze is there to signify her confusion. The maze will be installed at the base of the model.

The mirrors that can be found within the maze is there to further confuse Alice as she tries to make her way through.

INTRODUCTION

TO THIS PROJECT

In this assignment, we have to read a chapter within the story, Alice in Wonderland. The chapter which I have been assigned with is the first chapter of the story. It started from when Alice first entered the rabbit hole to the time when she finally managed to open the door to have a look at the wonderland that is beyond the small door.

I was paired up with my classmate for this assignment. This is our first prototype. we decided to have a “tunnel” initially followed by a short slide and a few steps. After walking down the steps, she would have to jump down before entering a tight hole and into the maze. Alice would then wander around the maze before she gets out of it through a hole above her. By then, she would have already turned big according to the story and was only able to look through a tiny door to see the wonderland. All of these have been catered into our design. The maze is to signify the confusion that she felt when she first entered the room to multiple doors which lead to nothing. For this project, we had to do two prototypes before we do the final model.

This is the maze which was used to represent Alice’s confusion as she fell through the rabbit hole and first entering the room. The maze is one of the more difficult portion of the model that we had to make as my partner and I had to ensure that the maze fits right under the entire model and that there is good craftsmanship skills.

Within the maze, we also included mirrors so as to be able to further emphasize on the confusion that Alice will be going through as she goes into the maze.
